To effectively check crime and criminalities during the festive season, the Anambra State government has deployed helicopters and drones for aerial surveillance, while the police use intelligence reports to monitor flash points.

It is also collaborating with the Boston Innovation Centre in Massachusetts, United States (U.S.) to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras on trees and other objects in Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi.

The government effort is targeted at taming resurgence of crimes in some parts of the state, especially Onitsha, the commercial nerve-centre, where miscreants take advantage of traffic gridlock to rob travelers.

But in a bid to check crimes and douse tension arising from the newly introduced security devices, Governor Willie Obiano, has appealed to the people not to panic over the presence of helicopters and other security operatives in the state.

A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C-Don Adinuba, noted that the state government is increasing its air surveillance during the Christmas and New Year period to effectively check crimes. He urged travellers and the people to go about their businesses without fear of molestation during the festive season.
