National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency  (NDLEA) in Oyo State, has arrested Bayo Moses, who parades himself as a prophet and Marijuana cultivator, with 591.1 kilogrammes of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

He was nabbed in the first instance with 118.2 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa, and in the second instance with another 472.9 kilogrammes, totalling 591.1 kilogrammes.

The State Commander of NDLEA, Mrs. Omolade Faboyede, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer for the command, Mutiat Okuwobi and made available to journalists in Ibadan yesterday.

According to Faboyede, the suspect was nabbed with 118.2 kilogrammes at Olomi area in Ibadan on November 3, and another 472.9 kilogrammes at Olode village in Akorede Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Oluyole Local Government Area of Ibadan.

She explained that the 472.9 kilogrammes were recovered during a follow-up operation carried out on the 54-year-old “prophet” which also led to the arrest of a storekeeper, introduced as Yakubu Ganiyu, where the Indian hemp was kept.

Faboyede stated further that another set of operatives of the NDLEA in the state carried out an operation on November 7, which led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man, Bashiru Adepoju, who claimed to be a businessman, at the meat market in Bodija, Ibadan with 237.9 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa.

Her words: “So far in the month of November, we have 829.75kilogrammes of cannabis sativa and 50kilogrammes of psychotropic substances.”

Faboyede, however, noted that the NDLEA, Oyo State Command, was aware that the activities of traffickers are on the peak during this period and added that the command was ready to deal decisively with offenders.

“It is the peak period for traffickers and the command will leave no stone unturned to bring the offenders to book,” she warned.
