A 28-year-old woman, Oluchi Mba, residing in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has allegedly sold her seven-day-old baby boy for N350,000.

A report this morning by Southern City News, a PUNCH publication, said that “Mba took the decision in a bid to raise money to celebrate this year’s Christmas, which is three months away.”

It quoted an unnamed source as disclosing on Tuesday that, “the woman was boasting about how she would have a fun-filled Christmas this year, before she was arrested”.

According to the report, “We were together one Sunday and she was boasting about how she would celebrate this year’s Christmas in grand style.

“I told her that it was too early to plan for Christmas now, but she kept on boasting and saying she would want to have fun during the season. I didn’t know she was planning to sell her own child. This is terrible.”

Mba was said to have sold the baby to a 55-year-old, Edith Obiakor, of Akudo Street in Nkpor, who resold the baby to her in-law, one Vitus Aniunoh, 50, of Patterson Street, Fegge in Onitsha for N650,000.

Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.
