Unveiled: Names of abducted Chibok schoolgirls so far identified in Boko Haram video

The Borno State Government has released the names of 54 of the 136 girls shown in the video released on Monday by Boko Haram and said to feature students of Government Secondary School, Chibok, kidnapped on April 14 by the sect.

Governor Kashim Shettima released the names yesterday while addressing the #BringBackOurGirls coalition at the Borno State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja. Those identified kept increasing and the figure stood at 77 as at the time the governor finished his address but only 54 names were immediately available.

Shettima said: “Fifty-four (names of other 23 girls were released later) of the girls in the video have been identified by their names at an exercise that involved some parents of the girls, fellow students that included escapees from abduction, some teachers, security men and some officials of the Borno State Government led by the Chief of Staff to the Government House, Abubakar Kyari. The parents and students were conveyed to the Government House in Maiduguri for an open identification exercise.”
