The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has screened 11 aspirants ahead of the September 22, 2019 governorship election in Osun State.
The 11 aspirants are; Sen. Akinlabi Olasunkanmi Abdulrasheed, Dr. Oyewumi Kamorudee Olaler, Nathaniel Oladipo Oladiran Oke, Sen. Ogunwale Felix, Alhaji Fatai Akinade Akinbade, Dr. Ezekiel Olajide Adeniyi.
Others are; Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Dr. Ayoade Adewopo, Hon. Rafiu Adejare Bello, Sen. Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke and Prof. Adeolu Durotoye.
The party would at its primary, elect one of the aspirants as candidate for the election.
Briefing newsmen yesterday at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, chairman of the screening committee and former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Austin Opara said the party would do things right.
"We have 11 aspirants that have applied to contest the governorship position in Osun State. One thing we want to let you know is that our party is reformed and we have a repositioned party; a party that is coming back stronger and willing to take over governance and leadership of this country.
"We are determined to do things right. The new leadership of the party has said we must rebrand the party. We will not import any material that is not in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the guidelines of our constitution.
"The constitution, for instance, has specified the age limit especially with the passage of the Not-Too-Young-To-Run Bill into law,” Opara said. (Daily Trust)
