Ohanaeze Youth wing in South-South geopolitical zone on Saturday commended the leadership of Dr Nnia Nwodo, President General of pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, for sensitising Nigerians on the benefits of restructuring.
Chief Chinedu Arthur-Ugwa, Cordinator of the youth arm of Ohanaeze made the commendation while speaking on the sidelines of the rally on restructuring organised by Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) in Yenagoa.
Arthur-Ugwa noted that Ohanaeze leadership has been on the forefront of efforts to enlighten the citizenry on the need to support efforts at strengthening the unity amongst the federating units and make the country a prosperous one.
He said that restructuring was more than a slogan and required the support of all parts of the country to make it a success.
His words: “We, the Ohanaeze youths in Bayelsa and South South applaud the tireless efforts of our President General, Chief Nnia Nwodo, in preaching national unity amongst different parts of the country with regard to unity of purpose and restructuring as well.
“He has been taking time to breakdown to concept to the level that ordinary Nigerians can understand and identify with, he has shown that restructuring is beneficial to every part of Nigeria and made it acceptable to all.
“Also worthy of note is the peace moves made by Nwodo across the nooks and crannies of the federation where Igbos reside and do business, under his tenure, leadership tussles amongst Igbos have been tamed.
“In placed where there is disharmony amongst Igbos and their hosts he has intervened and made peace, he met with Ohanaeze in Bayelsa and resolved the crisis that has lingered here for many year and we are grateful to him.”
Arthur-Ugwa noted that every part of the country has legitimate needs that could be met in a restructured Nigeria and advised the federal government to address it in a holistic manner.
He said that restructuring held the keys to socio economic advancement of the country provided the federal government had the political will to implement it for the benefit of the citizenry.
Representatives of Ohanaeze, Afenifere, Middle Belt Forum, Area Consultative Forum, amongst others, sent goodwill messages to the rally.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, who was represented by Senator Nimi Amange called for the implementation of the recommendations of the 2014 National Confab which addressed the issues canvassed by various parts of the country in the restructuring debate.
