At least nine schoolchildren were killed and 10 others injured on Saturday when a speeding vehicle ran them over while they were crossing a busy highway in eastern Bihar state of India.

An Anadolu Agency report quoted local media reports as indicating that the accident occurred in Muzaffarpur district when the students left their school after classes ended for the day.

The news agency quoted Vivek Kumar, a senior police officer in the area, as saying: “Nine students have died. Ten others have been admitted to a hospital for treatment, out of which two are in critical condition.”

Mr. Kumar further said that two adults were among the victims.

The driver of the speeding vehicle is yet to be arrested, Anadolu reported.
