In demonstration of its commitment towards youth development in Nigeria, leading Electricity Distribution Company, Ikeja Electric Plc (IE), recently organised a youth empowerment programme to train 40 participants across its network.

The two-week vocational training was held at the Community Vocational Centre in Oshodi, Lagos and it provided a platform for the participants to hone their culinary and entrepreneurial skills, with a view to setting up small scale business.

The company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Felix Ofulue, said the initiative is in line with the company’s Personal Corporate Social Responsibility (PCSR) and it was designed to empower youth with entrepreneurial skills which will help reduce the level of unemployment across the country.

“At Ikeja Electric, we are deeply passionate about providing opportunities for Nigerian youths to hone their entrepreneurial skills through various platforms because we believe that there are millions of youth out there who need the right opportunities and support to develop. That is why we will continually strive to create the avenues for youth empowerment,” he said.

Ofulue described the project as one of the ways which Ikeja Electric continues to enrich lives of youth across its network in a bid to help them achieve their dreams and aspirations

“This initiative underscores our determination to enrich lives and contribute to humanity. We will continue to create robust platforms and opportunities to facilitate the dreams of our youth who have ambition to succeed as entrepreneurs among other things,” he noted.

He further urged the participants to embrace the training as it will expose them to positive ideas that can transform their lives to become an ideal for other youths in the society to emulate.
