Sole Administrator of Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro. Felix Obuah, has restated calls on residents of Port Harcourt to desist from patronising cart pushers for the disposal of refuse in the state capital.
This is to guard against the activities of cart pushers who dispose refuse indiscriminately and at unapproved receptacles and dumpsites within Port Harcourt and its environs.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, Obuah warned that the Agency would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute cart pushers who continue to flout its directives.
Obuah advised individuals, corporate organisations as well as those engaged in the hospitality industry especially in the GRAs who have continued to engage the services of cart pushers, to refrain from doing so, as the Agency has severally directed that only service providers registered with the Agency should be engaged for waste disposal.
The Sole Administrator disclosed that the cart pushers collect the wastes and dump them indiscriminately and at unauthorised places while some empty the wastes at the median of major roads outside the approved hours of 6pm-12am, thereby defacing the area.
He lamented that these wastes that are dumped after the approved dumping hours remain and deface the area because the service providers are already done with their job in those areas.
“Once again, we advice individuals, corporate bodies and those in the hospitality industry to dispose their wastes using the services of those companies that are duly registered with RIWAMA,” Obuah declared, warning cart pushers to desist forthwith or face serious sanction.
He added that those who continue to flout these warnings would have themselves to blame as similar warnings had been issued in the past but they fell on deaf ears.
