The House of Representatives has commenced investigation into the reported deplorable condition of Nigeria’s missions abroad.
The House also resolved to begin direct oversight functions on all Nigeria’s foreign missions, especially in the area of funds utilisation.
Adopting a motion by Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje (PDP, Abia) and 21 others, the House mandated its committee on Foreign Affairs to conduct a public hearing on the matter and report back within eight weeks for further legislative action.
Leading debate on the motion, Elendu-Ukeje said the reported deplorable state of Nigerian foreign missions has created negative image for the country.
The motion, subjected to debate by Speaker Yakubu Dogara, was unanimously adopted by the House. (Daily Trust)
