For Nigeria’s Ejike Uzoenyi, it was a moment of glory last night in South Africa as he emerged as the Most Valuable Player of the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) concluded at the Cape Town Stadium.

His choice of the mesmerising Enugu Rangers left winger did not come as a surprise as he had scooped three Man of the Match awards at the tournament and also scored three goals.

The petite winger’s trickery and his goals saw him shine against Mozambique and South Africa, where he was only denied a hat-trick by the crossbar. Then he was produced another virtuoso display with a master-class showing against Morocco on Saturday that also made him Man of the Match.

Nigeria, debutants at the championship, beat Zimbabwe 1-0 to lift the bronze and also won the Fair Play Award.

South Africa’s Bernard Parker finished as Goal King of the competition on the back of his four goals.

The 2014 CHAN produced surprise winners in Libya, who beat Ghana 4-3 after the penalty shootouts that followed a barren 120 minutes of action.
