•Nigerian troops hunting for Boko Haram terrorists.
The Nigerian Army says it has discovered a new operational base used by Boko Haram insurgents in the Lake Chad region.
Acting General Officer commanding the 8 Task Force Division, Stevenson Olabanji, made this known during a visit to troops of the 118 Task Force Battalion, in Borno state.
Olabanji added that the military will soon launch an attack on the base located on a remote Island in Lake Chad.
Speaking to Troops of the 118 Task Force, Olabanji, a Brigadier General, urged the soldiers to be at alert as the strike order on the secret Boko Haram location could be given at any time.
“The tempo of ongoing clearance operations will be increased, so be prepared. You may be ordered at any time to clear the remnants of Boko Haram elements in the identified locations.”
The Commanding Officer, 118 Task Force Battalion, O.P. Oyekoke, assured the GOC of the readiness of his officers and soldiers to discharge their duties in accordance with extant Nigerian Army regulations.
About 100,000 people have been killed since the start of the Boko Haram insurgency in 2009.
The Nigerian security forces and regional forces from Cameroon, Chad, and Niger have made important progress in pushing the sect out of the towns and villages of northeast Nigeria and the broader Lake Chad Basin region.
So far, the sect has been dislodged from their major stronghold in Sambisa, with members fleeing in different directions. (TV360 Nigeria)
