More than 2,000 people have been displaced and over 100 houses destroyed following heavy downpour that lasted for hours in Kaita council area of Katsina State.
The rainfall which occurred Sunday night into the early hours of Monday morning also destroyed crops and farmlands as well as animals and other household items.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the state Emergency Management Agency, Umar Muhammad lamented on the extent of the havoc caused by the downpour, but that no human life was lost.
Muhammad said assessment was been made in the area after which intervention would be carried out to the victims.
He said a team from the agency and sympathisers had visited the area to sympathise with the victims of the flood.
The head of the council area, Mrs Umma Mahuta called on the government to come to the aid of those affected as doing so would help cushion the losses recorded from the incidence.
But the Executive Secretary, SEMA, Dr Aminu Garba Waziri attributed the incidence blockage of drainages which he said was negligence on the part of the community members. (The Guardian)
