Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi on Monday met to discus the best engineering design on the right of way and rail alignment at Ijoko axis of the Lagos-Kano rail project.

After an inspection of the flyover at Ijoko, Sango Ota area of the state with the Governor, Amaechi told reporters that it was necessary to address the challenge causing the delay of the project so as to meet set target for its completion.

The Minister identified the right of way and height of the flyover being constructed by the state government as some of the reasons for the delay, adding that his Ministry would await suggestions from engineers as regards the engineering options to address the challenge.

On the cash refund request of the state government, Amaechi disclosed that the Federal Executive Council had started deliberations on the refund of the money spent to construct federal roads in the state.

He assured that the residents, whose houses were demolished to pave way for the project, would be compensated.

On his part, Amosun expressed delight over the determination of the Federal Government to execute the project, noting that reviving the rail system was in the interest of the nation.

According to him, the economy of the country depended to a considerable extent on the Ogun State axis, which he described as a passage for other states.

Pleading for the speedy completion of the project, he said that would reduce the impact of vehicular movement on the roads and also served as a means of transporting goods.

The Governor stated that about 90 per cent of the roads constructed in the state by his government were federal roads and urged the Federal Government to refund the money spent so that it could be utilised to further develop the state.
