Oil and gas mogul, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, has regained his freedom after about six weeks in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), a report from Abuja said.
The report, by elombah.com, did not give any details. Efforts by News Express to confirm the story were not immediately successful.
Dr. Ubah, politician and Managing Director of Capital Oil & Gas, was arrested and detained by DSS on May 5, 2017, allegedly “sequel to his engagement in acts of economic sabotage which include stealing, diversion and illegal sale of petroleum products stored in his tank farm (in Lagos) by the NNPC. So, far, it has been established that the products stolen amount to over Eleven Billion Naira (N11bn).”
Ubah denies the charges and initially secured bail in court but he was not released. His continued detention sparked public outcry, with frontline right groups such as the Int’l Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety) demanding that he be released or charged to court.
