The Federal Government Girls College (FGC) Owerri is set to commission an Ultra-Modern toilet built by its Abuja Alumni.
The commissioning, which is scheduled to hold on Sunday May 28, 2017, is a sequel to the chapter project adopted at the FGC old girls reunion in 2015.
The alumni had agreed to the build the said Ultra-Modern toilet as a bid to improve sanitary well-being of the students of FGC Owerri.
In a statement on Saturday, the alumni noted that “the growing population of students in unity schools and inadequate infrastructure in these schools is of great concern.”
“The Abuja Alumni chapter wishes to encourage other alumni networks to join hands in Give Back projects of this nature. The ultramodern toilet facility is the beginning of many more projects in the pipeline and credit goes to the Abuja Alumnae pacesetters.
The union said the “Ultra-Modern toilet was designed by an old girl from the school, Arc Kelly Anga, and supervised by Arc Nonye Ukoha, both members of the Abuja Alumni chapter.
“Financing of this project amounting to N7 million was raised largely from the individual contributions of alumni of the Abuja chapter and some seed funding from corporate sponsorships during the 2015 reunions.
“The commissioning of this project is a very historic one. It comes on the heels of a mentoring program designed for a section of the current students in the school who will receive grooming and share life lessons with visiting old girls from the Abuja Alumni Chapter.
The project will be unveiled on the said date in the presence of “students, teachers and PTA members, the dynamic president of the Abuja Chapter, Mrs Perpetua Ohammah, Ms. Uloma Ajugwo (Vice President Abuja Chapter), Mrs Chioma Orjiako (Welfare Officer) and a delegation of over ten chapter members.”
The union further revealed that “the current Principal of the school, Mrs Nnennaya Ulu and the National President of the Alumni body, Arc Chinwe Sam-Amobi, and Rev. Blessing Osuji, the PTA chairperson,” will be present at the event.
Presidents of the Enugu and Owerri alumni chapters have also indicated that they will be attending the unveiling.
