Akwa Ibom Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has reiterated President Goodluck Jonathan’s commitment to repositioning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for harmony and to ensure that peace prevails in the country.

Speaking yesterday during his 51st birthday celebrations with the state PDP members at the Party Secretariat, Edet Akpan Avenue, Uyo, Akpabio remarked: “President Jonathan has positioned our party to bring about peace and to ensure that harmony is achieved in our party so that we could continue to win elections and remain the hope of the ordinary Nigerians on the streets. President Jonathan is also determined that there is peace in the country.

“PDP has been a fantastic platform in producing leaders. And it is the PDP that has brought the uncommon transformation of my state. I must thank you all. Things would not have been possible if not for the cooperation in the party because after binging in leaders, they continue to support the leaders and it won’t have been possible, but not for the patience and prayers of the party executives.”

Continuing, the governor said: “To this I say I’m very proud of the party and I must thank you all for making me a model in Nigeria and I must say that all the awards and honours that come my way is because I represent the party well.”

In his remarks, Akwa Ibom State PDP Chairman, Mr. Paul Ekpo, said Governor Akpabio has made the party proud by repositioning the country through the state, which, he said has indicated that government can work.

Congratulating the governor on his 51st birthday, Mr. Ekpo described him as a model man with leadership qualities that has brought a total transformation through good governance to the state, praying God to keep him alive till old age.

Earlier, Akpabio who had attended a mass at Government House Chapel, Uyo, to celebrate his birthday stated: “In this life, we should continue to be a source of inspiration to others. In all my life experiences, God was turning me from furnace to help me shine better because all the life difficulties we face are to enable us to face the challenges ahead and the secret of success is through God. So, I therefore call on everybody to recognise that only partnership with God will make the state flourish.”

Akpabio thanked all Akwa Ibom people for celebrating with him especially his wife, Unoma who led women of the state for a rally in celebration of his birthday.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. John Ebebe, said if the people of the state would worship God with all holiness, they would achieve what God has in store for them, stressing that the people of the state must avoid associating with cunning men and women who are against the government.
