Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West, turned up at the Senate plenary today wearing academic gown and cap, causing a mighty distraction in the upper chamber. The drama came a day after he was cleared of allegations of not having graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State.
The Senator, whose first degree had come under scrutiny in the recent past, walked in to the red chamber clad in the full academic regalia, smiling as cameras clicked away.
The question surrounding his graduation was laid to rest on Monday when ABU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, confirmed that the controversial Senator graduated from the university.
Prof. Garba told the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public petitions that Melaye graduated in year 2000 as Daniel Jonah Melaye.
He added that the Senator graduated with a third class degree in geography.
Hours after the confirmation by the VC, a video went viral where the senator was dancing and singing in Yoruba celebrating the turn of event.
On Tuesday however, the Senator appeared for plenary dressed in academic regalia and went round the chamber to exchange pleasantries with all the Senators present.
