•Senator Dino Melaye.
Contrary to the allegation leveled and widely promoted by SaharaReporters online newspaper, the lawmaker representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye, graduated from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State.
ABU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, made the declaration on Monday during the ongoing public hearing by the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges. He stated unequivocally that Senator Melaye graduated as Daniel Jonah Melaye with BA Geography in year 2000.
Melaye, during his appearance before the committee, revealed that he fulfilled his educational requirements and graduated from ABU in year 2000. He tendered the institution’s Letter of Admission, Acceptance Offer, Result and WAEC Certificate.
He also said ABU sent his name to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), served at the Police College, Kaduna, and also tendered his NYSC Certificate.
Commenting on the development, Senate President Bukola Saraki said: “We must protect this institution. That’s why I took time to be here to clear this issue once and for all.”
For former Senate Leader Ali Ndume, who caused the issue to be investigated by the Senate, it was an hour of shame.
Members of the committee pointedly asked him whether he was fair to his colleague, Melaye, when he raised the certificate allegations. Ndume said he only raised an issue based on public debate and reports by The PUNCH and SaharaReporters.
