An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant for the Anambra 2017 election, Comrade Eze Harris Chuma, has strongly condemned what he termed gangsterism and cyber bullying by some aides of Governor Willie Obiano, as well as some over-zealous members of the ruling party in the state, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Comrade Chuma in a statement issued in the state capital Awka, lamented: “Just lately, it has become worrisome, the spate of threats to lives of vocal members of opposition parties in Anambra emanating from over fed APGA cyber bullies. Our investigations point to the fact that the overzealous APGA youths and sinister political cabals in the state have formed the habit of creating WhatsApp groups, harvest telephone numbers of vocal social media influencers in the state and consequently launch cyber attack on their persons, personalities and ambitions.”
“More disturbing,” Comrade Chuma said, “Is the recent preoccupation of these criminal elements who operate in the name and style of ‘Willie Is Working Support Team.’ There stock in trade has been identifying critics of Governor Obiano’s government and threatening to cannibalise them, obviously garbed with the devilish intent to dehumanise anyone caught criticising the APGA leadership in the state.”
The struggle to muzzle the opposition into silence, he added, has been the lot of these desperate politicians who have failed the state woefully.
He also stated that the Anambra social media space is awash with the news of cyber bullying of one of the prominent social media influencers, a good governance advocate in Anambra, Mr. Nnamdi Ezewuzie “by one masked Obiano’s fanatic who operates with the pseudo name ‘Nwa Willie’ (Willie’s son). It was not long after he dished out threat to cannibalise Mr. Ezewuzie that he was fished out of his pseudo profile, and was exposed as Joe Offia who allegedly is a Special Adviser to Governor Obiano. We earnestly advance that it is cogent on the part of Governor Obiano to call these cyber renegades to order before their criminal activities heat up the polity.”
Chuma said: “It has become clear to us that anyone who criticizes the governor’s style of governance is marked as enemy of the state by the irate APGA youths in the state. We call on the law enforcement agents to swiftly nib this ugly trend in the bud. We firmly maintain that we will always play by the rules but will not entertain any form of gangsterism as we throttle down to electioneering period in few months to come.
“Personally, as a vibrant gubernatorial aspirant, whose electrifying presence cuts across so many social media platforms in Anambra, I have absorbed all manners of cyber bulling from Governor Obiano’s e-tugs. Having grown thick skin, I remained undaunted, almost always ensuring that my arguments are strictly issues oriented. I am a good governance campaigner and anti corruption advocate. My foray into politics is to cause a moral rebirth in my home state, Anambra. I make bold to state that my ambition does not worth blood of anybody.
“It is no longer news that APGA government has lost leadership capital and will be retired at the polls, come Nov. 18, 2017. As they send these criminal elements clan with threats to send vocal members of the opposition to graves perhaps they need not be informed that no one has monopoly of violence. We must shun politics of bitterness.
Many successful states in Nigeria have developed their democratic outlook to a large extent that it has become old fashioned to employ violent means in selling political party or candidate.
“Please, we want these rampaging political e-thugs cautioned, and to desist from indiscriminate adding of people’s telephone numbers to their malicious WhatsApp groups without first seeking for consent and approval.
“Relevant authorities should as a matter of urgency call these APGA social media tugs to order. Let peace reign in Anambra. We are brothers and should be accommodating.
We need love not hatred. With love we can join hands to rebuild our state. It’s possible to end cyber bulling in Anambra. Yes, it is possible!”
