Court remands men for stealing N15m PMS

A Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, presided over by Magistrate Olusola Aluko, on Monday ordered that four men be remanded at Ilesa Prison Custody for allegedly stealing 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The accused persons include Akintayo Giwon aged 38, Omotayo Blessing, aged 19, Akinloje Kayode, aged 28, and Akinjole Akintayo, aged 25.

Police prosecutor, Mereti Wilson told the court that the accused persons on February 18, 2017 robbed one Musa Mohammed of a truck loaded with 33,000 litres of PMS valued at N15 million, property of one Chiroma Ibrahim.

He added that the offence committed by the accused persons is contrary to and punishable under section 1(1), (2), (a) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions), Act Cap RII Vol. 14, Laws of Federation of Nigerians, 2004.

The plea of the accused persons was not taken but their counsel, Mrs Raji Abiodun, implored the Court to temper justice with mercy and be lenient in its judgment.

In his ruling, Magistrate Olusola Aluko ordered that the accused persons be remanded at Ilesa Prison custody and adjourned the case till March 27, 2017.

The man who bought the stolen PMS from the four accused persons, Omoniyi Olakunle, was also arraigned on the same day before another Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate Falilat.

Police prosecutor Felix Okafo told the court that Olakunle allegedly bought the PMS from the accused persons on the 18th of February for the sum of N4,790,000.

He added that the offence committed by Olakunle contravened section 427 of the criminal code cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The counsel to Olakunle, Abayomi Alayo prayed the court to grant him bail in the most liberal terms as he has reliable sureties.

Magistrate Sodamade in her ruling, granted Olakunle the bail of N500,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till 17 of April, 2017.
