There was commotion on Friday morning in the ancient city of Zaria, Kaduna, when a mobile policeman attached to one of the bank branches opened fire on passersby at the PZ area at about 11:05 a.m., a report from the area said.

Daily Trust said it was told by a witness that the mobile policeman had verbal exchanges with a soldier, “and he just moved into the main road to start shooting sporadically.”

The witness went on: “Some people thought that it was armed robbery, but it was not. I saw the two security personnel exchanging words before the mobile policeman started shooting.”

The paper said that the spokespersons of the Police and the Army couldn’t be reached immediately but that vans of Operation Yaki, the Kaduna State special security outfit, promptly moved to the scene.
