While commissioning series of projects at the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, he stressed the need for managers of government institutions to ensure that finances are accountably utilised to the benefits of the masses.

According to him, the recession affecting the country has called for proper utilisation of resources to avoid any form of wastage.

Other projects included a laboratory building for science laboratory technology department, engineering workshop for the department of chemical engineering, restructured Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro main gate, firefighting station building, firefighting truck and back up truck as well as a two-kilometre campus road.

The school management saw the achievement as a dream come true as the Chairman Governing Board Ozoro Polytechnic, Funke Solomon, commended Governor Okowa for his assistance which made it possible for such landmark projects to be executed.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Jacob Oboreh, on the other hand disclosed that the projects were executed by the staff and students of the institution.

“I have firm belief that as a Polytechnic that trains manpower for the technical development of our nation, we have the manpower and all the skills required for the execution of these projects.” He added that “we adopted a model whereby staff and students in engineering, building technology and quantity surveying departments are involved in the construction and execution of all our projects under the co-ordination and supervision of the Director of Works who is a COREN registered civil engineer.”

Seemingly pleased by the achievements of the institution authorities, the governor stressed the need for a better financial management and accountability, while also expressing confidence in the quality of training acquired by students.

“It is one thing to generate fund, it is another to make accountable use of such fund and I believe that students will leave this institution well equipped for the future.”

Governor Okowa used the occasion to sue for peace in the state to ensure speedy development.
