A total of 163 newly dedicated members have been baptised in the past three weeks at the ‘God’s Word Is Truth!’ District Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses holding at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witneses, Ota, Ogun State, in South-West Nigeria.
Fifty-five (24 males and 31 females) were baptised on September 28, 49 (25 males and 24 females) on October 5 and 59 (33 males and 26 females) on October 12.
Baptism is usually conducted on Saturday during the three-day convention holding Friday to Sunday and involves the immersion of candidates into water in accordance with scriptural requirements.
News Express learnt that a candidate is approved for baptism only after completing a free home Bible study course and undergoing interviews.
Apart from Ota, conventions are also holding in English and local languages in several other Nigerian cities until December 22. The cities include Agbor, Akabo, Akure, Awi, Badagry, Benin City, Daluwon, Enugu, Igwuruta Ali, Ikot Ekpene, Ikot Nko, Ilesa, Ilorin, Jos, Kaduna, Katsina Ala, Kwali, Lekki, Makurdi, Mgboko Umuoria, Okitipupa, Oyede, Sokoto, Ubogo, Uli, Uzuakoli and Zaria.
A statement by the News Service Department of the Convention Organisation said: “Everyone who is interested is invited to attend. Seating is free and there is no collection of any sort.”
