The Nigerian Senate, considering the alarming rate of election rigging and inconclusive polls in the country, has resolved to effect an amendment on Clause 11 of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Act, after an exhaustive debate among lawmakers.
At Thursday’s plenary session, Senators deliberated extensively on the Report of the Senate Committee on INEC Act No. 6 2010 Amendment Bill, sponsored by Senator Abubakar Kyari of Borno North.
The Bill received support from majority of the legislators when the question was raised by the Senate President who presided over the plenary.
Contributing to the debate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege suggested that “once the card reader fails, it should be replaced by INEC instead of issuing incident form to avoid rigging.”
