The Ogun State police command says it has arrested two Fulani herdsmen for killing another herdsman, in an attempt to steal his cow at Itadodo area of Ofada in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.

Both men, Abdulahi Anaruwa and Mohammed Suleiman met the deceased, Garuba Mohammed while grazing with his cattle and two of his kinsmen, when they lured him into the nearby bush and macheted him to death on the October 28, 2016.

Luck ran against them when a motorcycle rider saw them and alerted the people of the area who in turn called the Police.

The DPO of Owode Egba, CSP Sheu Alao, hurriedly led his men to the scene and the two suspects were immediately arrested.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department for further investigation.

Mr Iliyasu further warned that crime and criminality will have no place in Ogun State and that those who are hell-bent in committing crimes will have the ever ready police command to contend with.

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, recently had the anti-grazing bill passed into law to curb the practice of herdsmen rearing cows in cities; an act he has described as shameful.

This led to the establishment of the Grazing Enforcement Marshall, to enforce the Ekiti State Government’s Anti-Grazing Act, although their operations were suspended on Tuesday November 1 after issues were raised by the herders’ association, claiming that some of the animals were killed by the officials.

Fayose however denied claims that the marshals appointed to enforce the anti-grazing law‎ were shooting cows, while stating that the suspension was only temporary.

“The marshals are not armed. There is total misinformation about killing of cows, shooting of cows. It is pure political and misinformation.

“All I want is people obeying our laws and collaborating together in the overall interest of our state.” (Channels TV)
