Chairman Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDPGF), Chief Godswill Akpabio, has declared that his party is not in any way prepared to relinquish power to any opposition party as the party prepares for the 2015 general elections.
The Akwa Ibom State Governor, who stated this Friday at the funeral service of the late Hon. Justice Regina Obiageli Nwodo in Ukehe, Nsukka, noted: “It is very clear that this country is large and the fate of over 160 million people cannot be toyed with or left in the hands of parties that change their names like chameleon.”
Akpabio said the opposition parties have within the past years witnessed name changes and by “2015 they may have up to 11 names.” On the other hand, “the Peoples Democratic Party remains the same now and forever just like the word of God Almighty. God does not change. Our party does not change too.”
He condoled Dr. John Nwodo on the death of his wife, describing the deceased as “a towering legal mind, who served on the bench with integrity, boundless dedication, utmost humility and the fear of God.”
Akpabio said he was at the funeral both as a family member and as the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum to identify with a prominent PDP family in Enugu. He lamented that by the death of Justice Nwodo “Nigeria has lost an outstanding person and an eminent jurist.”
