The military on Friday said it shot dead 10 suspected Boko Haram terrorists after a successful ambush at the border town of Gamboru-Ngala in Borno.

Maj-Gen. Lucky Irabor, the Theater Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, said this at a news conference in Maiduguri.

Irabor added that the military had also recorded tremendous success in its clearance operations in various parts of the state.

He noted that “on June 10, our troops at Logomani ambushed suspected Boko Haram terrorists following information about their movement toward Muska village in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno.

As a result, 10 of them were killed and two others were captured, while two civilian captives were rescued from the terrorists during the operation.”

The theatre commander said items recovered from the terrorist included six AK47 magazines, 56 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a bundle of detonating cord and a manual booklet on how to make Improvised Explosive device (IED).

Irabor said that the troops also shot one suspected Boko Haram terrorist during a clearance patrol in Kala Balge area of the state.

He added that “on June 7, troops on patrol made contact with suspected Boko Haram terrorists around Tilani, Rann and Kalma in Kala Balge general area. In the process, one was killed, while others who suffered gunshot wounds fled, three motorcycles and a bag containing N466,000 cash was recovered from them.”

He explained that eight abducted persons made up of two adult females, two female teenagers and three male children were rescued by the military.

He added that one male minor, however, sustained injury and had been treated at the military medical centre.

He further added that the rescued persons were in the military custody for further screening and profiling.

The commander said that the military had also shot dead two Boko Haram terrorists and cleared 11 villages of Boko Haram elements on June 8, after conducting fighting patrols.

He said the villages include Kircha, Goniye, Wujjal, Alkelu, Kita-Jiddum, Jameri, Gerigana, Gerekura, Jabe, Hassana-Jere and Chacille.

He noted that two terrorists were killed during the patrol, while others fled, adding that eight dane guns, three terrorists’ flags, two cell phones and a power generator were recovered during the operation.

Irabor said the troops also shot dead one suspected terrorist and captured another after a clearance operation in Abbari village in Alagarno forest following intelligence report.

The troops, he said, also recovered one dane gun, two motorcycles, two wrist watches, gun powder, some hard drugs and N275,060 cash from the terrorists.

He said the troops on June 9, also cleared eight suspected terrorists’ camps in Yajiwa village in Alagarno forest in another operation.

Items recovered from the camps include two primed IEDs, three pressure plates, a 36-hand grenade, two dane guns, seven motorcycles, a damaged mine detector, a vehicle and a camel bag.

The three primed IEDs were safely disarmed by our troops while other items were destroyed.”

Irabor further said that the troops uncovered a burnt Styer Armored Personnel Carrier, two vehicles and three motorcycles in another clearance operation in the Alagarno forest.

Similarly on June 13, troops conducted a long range patrol to Lawankinari village which is about 16 km North East of Borgozo.

In the process, a suspected Boko Haram member, Abubakar Kurimi, who had on him N24,555 cash and a dane gun was apprehended.” (NAN)
