The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on Saturday announced the end of the tenure of Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, as Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council.

He named a renowned author and traditional ruler of Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, as his replacement.

The announcement was made during the launch of Operation Udo Ga-achi security initiative at the International Convention Centre Awka.

According to Soludo, Iweka’s appointment aligns with the newly amended State Traditional Rulers Law which has been signed into law.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Amended Law creates a provision for rotational leadership among the state’s three Senatorial zones.

To this end, the position of chairman will be shared among the zones in order to promote balance and fairness.

Igwe Iweka’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to achieve this balance, given the rotational nature of the leadership.

Achebe’s ouster is coming on the heels of a long-standing feud between him and Soludo.

Achebe apart from critiquing Soludo’s handling of traditional matters, Achebe also called him out for suspending the traditional ruler of Neni community, Damian Ezeani, over a chieftaincy title conferred on late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
