The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has tasked parents, teachers, community leaders and other stakeholders across the country to see the protection and care of the Nigerian child as a collective responsibility.
The Governor stated this on Friday at the 2016 Nigerian Children’s Day celebration held at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.
Speaking on the theme, “Protect the rights of the child in the face of violence and insecurity: End child marriage,” the Ogun State Governor said the children are the future leaders.
“This theme has come at the right time and all hands must be on the deck to care, provide and protect the Nigerian child from violence and insecurity,” Amosun said.
He Governor also seized the occasion to appreciate the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government for creating the enabling environment for men of the Nigerian Armed Forces to operate, leading to the rescue of two of the missing Chibok girls.
The Ogun State Governor further assured that the government is committed to protecting the right of all Nigerian children.
Advising the children, Governor Amosun enjoined them to focus on their studies, desist from all forms of violence and shun social vices, which he said, are capable of destroying and shattering their future aspirations.
Highlight of the celebration includes a March past and presentations from students of various schools in Ogun State as well as members of the Nigerian Youth Service Corps, NYSC.
