NSCDC prosecutes 54 suspected vandals

Nasarawa state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) says it prosecuted 54 suspected vandals from January to December last year.

Mr. Bashir Lawal-Kano, state Commandant of the Corps, disclosed this on Friday at the inauguration of an office complex donated by a philanthropist, Alhaji Bagudu Usman, for the area command of the Corps in Keffi.

Lawal-Kano said the state command had been working hard to deliver on its mandate, and that with the cooperation of the people of the state, the corps had recorded tremendous success.

He explained that apart from the vandals prosecuted, the corps also arrested and transferred 32 cases of misconduct to other relevant sister agencies for prosecution, while it mediated in 108 civil cases.

He added that the agency was also able to recover over N4 million for victims of crime within the period under review.

The state commandant lauded Alhaji Usman, for building, furnishing and donating the edifice to NSCDC.

He said the gesture would spur the corps to redouble its efforts at securing the lives and property of the people in the area.

He urged other well-meaning citizens to emulate the gesture of the donor by contributing their quota in the fight against criminals.

Sen. Abdullahi Adamu (APC – Nasarawa West), while inaugurating the office complex, commended the NSCDC for its effort at safeguarding public facilities, especially oil pipeline across the country.

He urged the corps to maintain a cordial relationship with members of the public in view of the numerous security challenges bedeviling the country.

He lauded the donor for his gesture and challenged all citizens to emulate him, adding that ensuring security was a collective responsibility.

He announced a cash donation of N 1 million towards the construction of the extension of the complex.

Alhaji Bagudu Usman, the donor said he was motivated to build and donate the edifice to the NSCDC as his contribution to complement government's efforts, having realized that government alone could not handle the security challenges.

Bagudu challenged other Nigerians to support security agencies, no matter how small; stressing that collective efforts would yield great results. (NAN)
