The 2016 matriculation ceremony of the University of Ibadan earlier scheduled for Thursday, March 10, 2016 has been postponed till further notice.

The postponement is due to the lockdown of the institution today by certain unions over consistent shortfall in the personnel cost being received by the university from the Federal Government since December 2015. The situation has been blamed on the delay in passing the 2016 Federal Budget.

A statement by the university’s Director of Public Communication, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo, made available to News Express disclosed that a new date for the matriculation ceremony would be duly communicated soon.

Oladejo said that “the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka, on behalf of management, regretted the inconveniences caused by the sudden postponement.”

He said that the VC has also pleaded with all students and staff to be “calm and patiently hope that all outstanding issues with respect to our personnel cost and other sundry financial matters will be addressed before the Federal Government’s budget of 2016 is finally approved.”
