Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has expressed regrets on the death of five National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) leaders in an automobile crash on Thursday. He conveyed his condolences to the families and institutions of the deceased students.
Governor Obi, who noted that every death is painful, however lamented the loss of these “promising ones in their prime.” He said it was touching that the student leaders died in the line of duty as they were travelling to the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) to mediate in the institution’s unrest.
“The nation needs such future leaders with a sense of mission,” the governor said in a statement issued in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
He stressed the need for road traffic regulatory agencies to strive towards greater safety on the nation’s highways by ensuring compliance with safety measures by road users.
He called on the institutions of the deceased students to honour them and keep their memories alive.
