Banks resume collection of foreign currency cash deposits

Nigerian banks this morning resumed acceptance of foreign currency cash deposits from customers following yesterday’s directive in this regard by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).  

Governor of the apex bank, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, gave the directive during a press conference in Abuja.

This morning, bank customers across the country to get a mail from their bankers informing them that they could once again deposit foreign currencies in their domiciliary accounts.

“We are pleased to inform you that you can now make Foreign Currency Cash deposits into your domiciliary account(s) at any of our branches from Tuesday, 12th of January, 2016,” reads the mail, adding:

“Our resumption of this service is in response to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) directive, issued on the 11th of January, 2016, authorising Commercial Banks in Nigeria to resume acceptance of foreign currency cash deposits.

“We appreciate your patronage and thank you for banking with us.”
