Akwa Ibom Govt. announces death of Ex-Governor Etiebet

The Government of Akwa Ibom State has announced the death of one-time Governor of old Cross River State, Senator (Chief) Donald Dick Etiebet, OFR.

Chief Etiebet served as Governor of the then Cross River State from October 1, 1983 to December 31, 1983 when a military coup ousted the Second Republic.

“Senator Donald Etiebet was a Lawyer and committed patriot, statesman, Community leader and an invaluable asset to our dear state,” Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, said.

“As a mark of honour, the State has in consultation with the family fixed the burial date for December 11, 2015 at his Country home of Ikot Ekpuk in Oruk-Anam Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State,” Umanah said in a statement issued this evening in Uyo.

He notified members of the public and sympathisers that the Mourning House had since been opened with the proclamation of the death of Senator Etiebet (Akpan Annang of Annang Land) by the President of Afe Nkuku Annang, Obong Cosmas Okon Akpan and Paramount Ruler of Essien Udim Local Government Area.

“We urge friends, associates, the political class and sympathisers to kindly join us to bid our elder statesman farewell. Furthermore, we wish to state that all other burial programmes remain as announced by the family,” the commissioner said.
