A former Nigerian military leader, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, on Saturday urged Nigerians to support efforts that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is making to ensure peace in the nation’s north-east.

The former Head of State was on a private visit to Yola, the Adamawa State capital, where he took out time to visit Governor Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla.

He told reporters that President Buhari inherited a lot of problems that he could not solve alone.

General Abubakar said: “In Nigeria, like you said, we are facing a lot of problems. From economy to security. But despite all these, ‘in sha Allah,’ Nigeria will survive.

“Now, I want to call on all of us; Nigerians to play their citizen’s rights, role and responsibility.”

Adamawa State is one of the northern Nigerian states worst hit by the terrorists in different attacks, a situation General Abubakar expressed hopes that it would end soon.

“All these criminals are amongst us. They have brothers, sisters and friends. It is left for us to report to the authorities so that these people can be fished out.

“Again, Nigeria cannot survive if Nigerians fail to play their roles. Be you a reporter, driver or messenger, we must all play our role.”

He urged the media to guard against inciting the public with their reports, stressing the need for stories to be verified before they are published.

The former Nigerian leader urged the citizens of Adamawa State to support the Governor, whom said could not rule without your support.

He also stressed the need for Nigerians to provide security agencies with needed information that would aid their counter-terrorism operations.

The military is making efforts to end the activities of the Boko Haram sect before the end of the year in line with a three-month deadline given to it by the current administration in August. (Channels TV)
