The abducted elder statesman, Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno, has been released by his abductors, News Express can report.

“The efforts of the Borno State Government (BOSG) led by Governor Kashim Shettima have succeeded in securing his release. He is on his way to re-unite with his family now,” a competent source told our reporter.

It was however not clear what had transpired and the modalities or conditions of his release by the captors to the BOSG.

The abduction, last Friday, of the 92 years old Monguno had sparked public outcry across the length and breadth of Nigeria.

It is not yet clear if any ransom was paid to secure the release of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources during the Gowon military regime.
