The Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) election of the Federal Government College Ijanikin, Lagos, has been disrupted by policemen, who arrested and are taking away the popular candidate, Mr. Jubril.
“The popular candidate being supported by most of the parents, Mr. Olusegun Jubril, has just been arrested and taken away by policemen. He was not informed of any offence and is being taken to Seme Police Division,” a News Express Special Correspondent covering the PTA meeting reported minutes ago. “It is believed that he is being taken out of the scene because he is likely to defeat the School Principal’s candidate, Mr. Adewale John Falade. The parents are saying no election until he is released ,” our Correspondent said.
News Express had ealier eported a siege at the school by combat-ready police operatives from Seme Division, who stormed the premises in eight Hilux vans, said to have been invited by the School Principal, Mrs. A.O. Ibunkun-Oyewole.
“We are shocked to arrive here for the election, only to be confronted by this large number of combat-ready policemen,” a distraught PTA member who spoke with News Express had said. “This is a brazen attempt by the School Principal, who wants the old to continue, to intimidate the gathering and install the candidate of his choice,” the source said.
News Express learnt that the election, postponed thrice, was fixed after the previous PTA administration was dissolved over alleged financial misappropriation to the tune of over N90 million.
