The organised labour in Imo State today described Governor Rochas Okorocha as one whose achievements in less than two years have clearly surpassed that of his predecessors since the creation of the state in 1976.

Speaking during the 2013 May Day celebration held at the Heroes Square, Owerri, the Imo State chairman of NLC, Comrade Reginald Anyadike, Ph.D, said the massive infrastructural projects embarked upon by the Gov. Okorocha and other transformational programmes have significantly placed Imo in the map of the fastest developing states in the country.
He said: “We wish to commend Your Excellency for the many achievements your administration has recorded with a short period of its life span. Imo has become a huge construction site overnight. We have witnessed the execution of many projects spanning through road construction networks and beautification of our urban centers. You have opened up the rural areas through your unprecedented revolutionary rural road rehabilitation and construction. Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu townships have also witnessed total transformation. New buildings are springing up here and there and you have relentlessly pursued the concept of Free Education with unbelievable vigor and vitality. Therefore, permit us to state here without that what you have done in 22 months far surpassed what some of your predecessors were unable to accomplish in a whole tenure of four years. This is true.”
The workers also lauded the free education programme of the governor which runs to the tertiary level. They said that by the programme, which is the first of its kind in the country, Gov. Okorocha has beyond doubt demonstrated his strong believe in the power of education to better the life of a man.
In his remarks, Gov. Okorocha promised to revisit some labour-related matters towards improving the welfare of the workers.
He reiterated his commitment to sustain the partnership with the organised labour to build a better Imo through his massive transformational projects and programmes.
The governor also tasked workers to to contribute their quota in rebuilding the state by showing dedication and commitment to their duties for optimum productivity.
He further maintained that his administration will not tolerate corruption, laziness and idleness from the workers, adding that workers should appreciate the friendly disposition of the present administration them by discharging their duties as expected.
Highlight of the celebration was the conferment of “Labour 2013 Award of Excellence” on Gov. Okorocha by organised labour in the state which comprises the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Meanwhile, Okorocha has assured the people of the state of good and adequate health care at the completion of the state-of-the-art equipments at the Imo State University Teaching Hospital Orlu (IMSUTH).

He gave this assurance after inspection of projects at IMSUTH, saying that his administration is willing to re-activate IMSUTH to enable it function effectively. “The IMSUTH has been dead for a long time, we have been able to restructure it back again and we are now proud to say we have a state teaching hospital,” he noted.

Okorocha assured that all the state of the art facilities like the MRI machines, and other medical equipments would be in place to avoid Nigerians and Imolites going abroad to seek for medical treatment. He also promised that structures must be put in place to avoid the university commission de-registering the school.

The governor assured Imo people that the projects will be completed before the end of this year, and expressed satisfaction at the level of work done.

Also speaking, the acting Medical Director of IMSUTH, Dr. Chijioke Nzewuihe, applauded Okorocha for the developmental projects going on at the institute, such as specialist clinic, diagnostic institute and promised that the projects will be completed and be ready for commissioning soon.
