8 family members perish on way to wedding

Eight family members heading for a wedding at Azare in Bauchi State have met their untimely and tragic death in a road accident.

The accident occurred yesterday, Thursday, February 3, 2022. It involved two Golf Wagon vehicles with registration number KHE 454 XA and BKD 74 SB both bearing Jigawa State plate number.

A Channels Television report said that the fatal motor accident occurred along Damaturu-Potiskum Road in Yobe State. “Nineteen persons have been confirmed dead while two others sustained serious injuries,” the report said.

It quoted eyewitnesses who spoke via telephone as blaming the accident on over speeding by both drivers of the vehicles.

“It was gathered that eight of the victims who are from the same family were heading for a wedding at Azare in Bauchi State when the incident happened,” the report said.

It quoted the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as saying that they were yet to receive the news of the accident but pledged to address journalists.
