The ongoing State Congress of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Awka, the Anambra State capital, has the blessing of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This is contrary to claims in some quarters that the electoral umpire would not recognise the congress due to the alleged existence of a faction of the ruling party in the state.

News Express has sighted a six-man INEC delegation sitting in the front row at the convention venue. A member of the delegation who spoke with News Express confirmed that they are representing INEC at the congress.

The congress, at which a new set of APGA leaders in the state is expected to emerge, is holding at the Women and Children Development Centre, Awka.

The venue is teeming with party members and stalwarts from all over the state, including Governor Peter Obi.
