Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Sunday advised the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu to work assiduously to rebuild the party to ensure it takes over power from the failed leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Wike also told Ayu not to fold his hands and sleep after getting the support of people like him to emerge PDP National Chairman, stressing that if he discovers that he is not performing well, he will not hesitate to shout.

This is just as two ex-Senate Presidents, Senator Mark and Dr. Bukola, have drummed up support for Ayu to ensure that PDP bounces back to power in 2023.

Governor Wike spoke at the inter-denominational church service organised to celebrate the victory of Dr. Ayu as National Chairman of the party held at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi, the state capital.

“Let me tell you, I have the belief you will use your position to ensure that even those who left the PDP are brought back to the party because they know in sincerity there is no opportunity in that party.

“I have the belief that because I supported and voted for you, you can turn around PDP to succeed in 2023, but if you are not doing well Mr. Chairman, I will shout and say ‘Mr. Chairman this is not what we expected from you,” he said.

Wike, who charged Ayu not to be distracted about who becomes the party’s presidential candidate, urged him to focus on rescuing and rebuilding the party noting that if that is done, he will stand in the party and Nigerians will vote overwhelmingly for the PDP come the 2023 general elections.

Former Senate Presidents, David Mark and Dr. Bukola Saraki, expressed confidence in the ability of Senator Ayu to transform the party and pledged their unalloyed support for him to succeed.

Dr. Bukola Saraki said: “I am sure that he will lead the party to victory in 2023. We PDP members in the North Central will give him our full support to succeed.”
