Yesterday’s twin bomb attack on a mosque in Jos has left at least 44 people dead and about 47 others injured, an update from the Plateau State capital said. Casualty figures were not available as at the time of News Express’ first report on the incident.
A Channels Television report said that the first bomb went off at a restaurant opposite the Bauchi campus of the University of Jos, while the second one went off at the mosque near the Yan tyre market area of Dilimi Junction along Bauchi road about 15 minutes after.
“The insurgents were said to have started shooting sporadically to beat a barricade mounted by security men before launching the attack,” the report said.
It added that officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have been mopping up the explosion scene, quoting NEMA’s North-Central Coordinator, Abdulsalam Mohammed, as disclosing that the injured are receiving treatment at various hospitals including the Plateau Specialist Hospital.
