Imo State Deputy Governor, Sir. Jude Agbaso, has come under intense pressure to resign after falling out of favour with his principal, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
Information reaching News Express from the Imo State capital, Owerri, has it that Agbaso may throw in the towel before the end of today so as to avoid the impeachment axe dangling over his head.
Agbaso was said to have been served notice of impeachment yesterday after a marathon executive session by the Imo State House of Assembly. The assembly has been investigating allegations of financial gratification leveled against Sir Agbaso by a major contractor handling the state government road projects.
A statement released yesterday in Owerri and signed by the state Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Prince Marshal Okafor Anyanwu, had accused Sir Agbaso of secretly romancing the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a bid to allegedly unseat Governor Rochas Okorocha and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu.
The statement entitled “Plot to unseat Gov. Okorocha, Imo Speaker” accused the Presidency and PDP of intervening behind the scenes in a bid to save Sir Agbaso.
“We are therefore surprised with the way and manner the Presidency and national leadership of the PDP unexpectedly showed interest in the matter and subsequently declared support for the Deputy Governor, Sir Jude Agbaso, who is not a member of the PDP,” the statement said.
