Tragedy has befallen the University of Lagos (UNILAG) again – even as the institution is still mourning the sudden death of its former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibidapo Obe.
This time, the grim reaper has taken away another erudite professor, Duro Ajeyalemi, a former Dean of Education at UNILAG who at various times pioneer Dean of Students’ Affairs from October 2, 1995 to January 17, 2000 and the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB).
Inaugurated on April 3, 2014, JUPEB has the mandate to conduct and regulate entrance examinations into foundation programmes of various universities nationwide.
The late Ajeyalemi joined UNILAG as a Graduate Assistant in 1977 and rose through the ranks to become an Associate Professor in 1989. A Fulbright Research Fellowship, University of Lowa, USA (1990), he was a Visiting Scholar in Curriculum Studies, University of Zimbabwe, Harare, 1988-89.
Prof Ajeyalemi’s death was announced this Wednesday morning, January 6, 2021 but details were not available as at the time of filing this report.
