Residents of Kungurki community in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State have repelled an attack on their village by suspected armed bandits.

Residents said the attempted attack on their community followed an altercation between an armed bandit and shop owner in the community.

“Some armed bandits arrived at the village and one of them entered into one shop belonging to a resident answering phone call.

“The shop owner ordered that the armed man should get out of the shop or be dealt with.

“The armed man refused to go out and the shop owner hit him with a stick.

“This angered several other armed men accompanying him.

“They went back and mobilized and came back firing at residents.

“The residents mobilised and firmly defended their community.

“One bandit and two other residents were killed.

“However, troops have been drafted to the community to restore law and order,” a resident said.

The spokesman of the state police command, SP Muhammad Shehu, could not be reached at the time of filing this report. (Daily Trust)
