Five government officials abducted in Borno have been released by their captors suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents/ISWAP, a source has confirmed.
Both the abductees and the negotiator who secured their release are said to have been arrested by the military on their way back to Maiduguri, the state capital.
A source said they have been taken to Maimalari Barracks.
The source, familiar with the negotiations, told Daily Trust negotiations began last week after their abduction.
“Yes, I can confirm you that the officials of ministry of RRR [reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement] abducted recently have been released. They are on their way to Maiduguri as we speak,” the source said. (Daily Trust)
