There is tension in Nigeria police as controversy trails the just ended plenary of the Police Service Commission (PSC) over accusation that it has deliberately delayed the promotion of senior officers, who are said to reject promotion for now.

Discrete investigations by Daily Independent reveal that the PSC held a plenary in July 2020 without promoting up to 50 percent of the officers whose names were forwarded to the commission by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, in June 2020.

Our findings also reveal that another plenary took place on Monday which extended till Tuesday, yet promotion was not part of the agenda discussed.

Last Friday, we exclusively reported that the plenary for promotion was scheduled for Tuesday, but dependable sources at the commission disclosed that the issue of promotion was not part of the agenda.

Based on unfolding scenarios, we exclusively reported on Tuesday that the number of senior officers slated for promotion had risen.  (Daily Independent)
