As Christiendom celebrates Easter, Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, has called on Christians in the country to imbibe the lessons of love, humility, selflessness, forgiveness and perseverance shown by Jesus Christ through his death on the cross and resurrection.
Orji, in his Easter message, stressed that emulating the virtues of humility and perseverance exhibited by Jesus Christ in the face of daunting odds, especially at this critical period of the nation’s history, would help the country to advance.
The governor, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ajunwa, observed that although Christ underwent very trying and difficult times on the cross in order to bring salvation to mankind, he never gave up but persevered and triumphed in the end.
He said the salvation brought to mankind by Christ should not be taken for granted and admonished Nigerians to look up to God for solutions to their personal problem and that of the nation.
Orji urged Christians to pray fervently for continued peace and unity of Nigeria, as well as for the successful completion of the April 11, 2015 governorship and House of Assembly elections which would facilitate a smooth transition of power come May 29, 2015.
He advised Nigerians to let the love of Christ continue to pervade the country and implored all to reflect on the life of selfless service lived by Jesus Christ.
He congratulated Christians on the occasion of this year’s Easter celebration and wished them a happy celebration.
Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party governorship (PDP) candidate in Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has optimism that this year’s Easter celebration will be celebrated with a new wind of hope in Abia to be provided through the election of a PDP Government in the state.
“We are interested in how bright our future can be. We are determined to create environment with the ambience for every Abian to make his or her contribution for the development of the State,” Ikpeazu said in his Easter message.
He commended Abians for keeping faith with the PDP, asking them to accept the outcome of the Presidential election but remain optimistic that PDP would carry the day on April 11.
Ikpeazu appealed to Abians to turn out en masse on April 11 to vote PDP in the governorship and House of Assembly polls, insisting that “that is the only way to re-establish the progress made by Michael Okpara in the Eastern Region, using the resources located within the state while creating socio-economic link with Other PDP states within states in the old Eastern Region.
