Nigeria’s Afro beats cum Trap singer and rapper Victor Ikubor, professionally known as Rema, has invaded Donald Trump’s America with his own kind of music.
The 20 years old Edo State-born Marvin Records artiste who rose to prominence with the release of the song “Iron Man”, which appeared on Barack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist currently has his face on major billboards all over the United States of America.
While Americans and the rest of the world are confined by the ravaging coronavirus pandemic, the new wave vocals and piano exponent from Nigeria is fast getting endeared to the hearts of Americans.
Rema could not hide his excitement about this rare feat when he tweeted Wednesday, with a video clip showing his face all over America:
“Seeing my face in the streets of Miami, Atlanta, Los Angeles etc, means a lot to me, Thank you @applemusic for playing a huge role in my journey #Upnext.”
Rema’s journey to stardom started as a joke.
Young Rema started singing and rapping while in secondary school in Benin, Edo State.
In 2018, Rema posted a viral freestyle to D’Prince’s track “Gucci Gang”. The post caught the attention of D’Prince who flew him to Lagos to offer a record deal.
Rema signed a record deal with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Marvin Records. in 2019.
He released his eponymous debut EP Rema in 2019. It peaked at number 1 on Apple Music Nigeria.
The rave of the moment performing musician has won for himself many awards.
On October 19, 2019, Rema won Next Rated and was nominated for Viewer’s Choice at the 13th edition of The Headies.
On January 12, 2020, he received the Souncity MVP for best new artist.
On June 15, 2020, Rema was nominated as Best Viewers Choice: International Act on the 2020 BET Awards. He was nominated on the awards alongside Burna Boy and Wizkid, they were the only Nigerian artistes nominated for the awards edition of 2020.
And today, Rema is the toast of the world’s super power.
